In ascending order of cuteness and awesomeness…

3. Depressed Suicidal GM Robot

This aired as a Super Bowl commercial and is clearly dated because it comes from GM’s better days. I think now the big concern is “are we bankrupt” rather than “are our cars good?” But the sad robot is still pretty funny/cute.

2. Lovestruck R2D2

WHAT?! Star Wars not in first place?! In this episode of Sesame Street, R2D2 falls in love with a fire hydrant and C3PO tries to talk him out of it, unsuccessfully. Awww.

1. TweenBot

The real reason for this post. This is actually a social experiment conducted by students in the NYU Tisch School of Arts. This guy only moves slowly in one direction, so his function as a robot is actually very limited. His creators set him loose at one end of Washington Square Park with a flag stating his inteded destination. If he was stuck, curious passerbys would help him out (which was the whole experiment, to see if anyone would help.) Apparently he was so adorable that “One man turned the robot back in the direction from which it had just come, saying out loud to the Tweenbot, ‘You can’t go that way, it’s toward the road.’ ” You can read about the experiment here.
