The Onion owns social networking, dorm parties

Part of what makesĀ The Onion so funny is that it’s actually based on some piece of truth, then just stretched and exaggerated. This “report” takes the dumb party pictures that show up on Facebook a step further, and traces a falling cigarette that starts a fire with 40,000 pictures obtained from multiple iPhones, BlackBerries, digital cameras, and video cameras. When the fire from the cigarette broke out, “the students were distracted by three female students making out in the kitchen” which resulted in thousands of videos of the same thing. Finally the students fled the building, but not before posting on Twitter and sending picture messages.

I don’t really know how to respond, because when I look at some Facebook profiles, this Onion video isn’t an exaggeration at all. It’s kind of sad, really.
