Green Hummer gets 100 MPG
Posted by anthonykuo Apr, 24, 2009 @ 10:44 am
Americans have often been mocked and criticized for their obsession with largeness…we have a large obese population, our buildings are gigantic, and our cars are unforgivably huge and gas-guzzling. But given the suburban lifestyle that characterizes much of the United States, the size of the cars we like is understandable. With the nearest wholesale Costco often a 20 minute’s drive away, it makes sense that cars with plenty of cargo space are demanded to transport bulk amounts of sugar and antibiotic-laden food in a single trip.
People tend to be quite stubborn about their lifestyles, especially about major lifestyle points such as family transportation. My family is no exception. But an assault on the bank account is often the best way to effect rapid change. So when the price of gas breached the $4 per …

iPod Shuffle now “talks” to you
Posted by Natalie Zutter Mar, 27, 2009 @ 10:49 amEven though I don’t waste my time with purchasing a Shuffle (since I would feel redundant pairing one with my fairly functional video iPod, which is more than helpful at the gym), it’s still cool to see Apple continue to outdo itself.
Apple’s got a guided tour of their new, even teenier Shuffle. (I can’t get over how with technology, we seem to reverse the American thinking of “Bigger is better.”) This size is achieved by sliding the control panel up to the headphone wires. This panel contains a button that is extremely sensitive — the difference between clicking and pressing it will pause your songs or compile a playlist.
The main selling point, the fact that this Shuffle “talks” to you, isn’t as cool as Apple makes it sound. The VoiceOver …
He May Suck At Life, But Not At Photoshop
Posted by jonnielaw Feb, 09, 2009 @ 4:19 pmI suck at photoshop. I do, it’s true. But luckily there is a guy named Donnie who has set aside time to make some instructional vids for maroons like me. In his demos, entitled “You Suck at Photoshop” on MyDamnChannel, you’ll learn how to use tools that you didn’t even know existed. In his words: “You’re only been using about $75 dollars worth of Photoshop; now you’re going to use $250.”
But all his mastery in Adobe’s program can’t help him keep his life together. His marriage is failing, his coworkers have no respect for him, even his WoW guild is getting sick of his dramatics. Therefore, most of his lessons involve things such as defacing the van that your wife’s been banging her high school friend in (because a restraining order keeps you from doing it RL) or making …
Star Wars Trilogy in 3:40, kinda
Posted by jonnielaw Jan, 15, 2009 @ 7:40 pmI apologize if I’ve been a bit of a Debbie Downer on this page with stories about job loss and what not, but it’s not a great time for tech. Let’s face it, a few weeks ago I was writing about dream gadgets and now I’m stuck with people losing their lively-hood.
So in reconciliation, I present to all my fellow geeks this amusing telling of the Star Wars trilogy. Basically, this dude, Joe Nicolosi, has a friend who he asked if she had seen Star Wars and she replied “bits of it . . .” So he had her tell him the basic story line as she could remember. He the whipped together some flash animation and viole: pure, feel good entertainment. Enjoy.
